What Are Toto Toilets?

The brand name of Toto is synonymous with Japanese styling. They have been a leading manufacturer of toilet fixtures and bathroom accessories for over one hundred years. The company was started by a man called Katsuhiro Usui. He began working in a small printing shop because it allowed him to add his personal touch to all of the items he designed for clients. He decided to create his own brand, so he bought all the supplies that he needed and designed all of his products himself.

Today, the company still produces traditional Japanese toilet fixtures and other bathroom products. Toto Ltd., styled as TOTO, is today the world’s largest manufacturer of toilet fixtures. It was established in 1917, and today is well known for creating the Washlet and various derivative items. The company is primarily based in Kitakyushu, Japan, and has manufacturing facilities in nine other countries.

One product that is a must have in any Japanese home is a toto toilet seat. These seats have a very long and distinguished history. The first designs were inspired by the ancient Roman Colosseum and were constructed out of solid hardwood. Soon after, Toto started making their heated seats out of iron, to help reduce the cost and weight of the seats.

The toto washlet is actually one of the most important parts of the toilet. Many people know it as the heated seats. A Toto Washlet has a very distinct design that is distinctly different from the ordinary Japanese toilet paper holders. It can hold up to three hundred and fifty-three rolls at a time, or about five thousand sheets. These colored toilet papers can be changed manually or can be electronically programmed.

The Toto Company began producing their heated toilet seats in January, 1970. They initially launched their ceramic type models in Japan only, but later added elongated versions all over the world. The elongated toto toilets are called waverine in Japan and toiletobazza in Europe. The elongated toilet bowl is only found in standard height toilets, where the bowl extends four inches to the rear. The standard height Japanese toilet is generally longer than the elongated one.

The most popular elongated model is the Universal Flushing System. This model is different from the standard height toilets in that it does not have a front tank of elongated seats. Instead, the tank attaches to the inside of the toilet, using bolts and water hoses to connect the tank and seat. An attached seat creates a much more convenient and sanitary experience for users.
